The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has screened Peter Obi ahead of the party’s presidential primary for the 2027 general election.
Announcing the development on Wednesday, Obi disclosed that he appeared before the party’s screening panel for more than two hours.

According to him, the panel thoroughly reviewed his credentials, including academic certificates, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) documents, and age declaration records.
Sharing details of the exercise on his X account, Obi said the screening session also focused on his plans for Nigeria and his vision for national leadership.
“I attended the presidential screening organised by our party, which took over two and a half hours.
“They carefully reviewed all my documents, including my degree certificates, NYSC credentials, and age declarations,” he stated.
“During the process, I also addressed questions regarding my vision for a new Nigeria and the type of leadership our nation urgently needs right now.
“Following this, I was cleared and received the presidential nomination form I had previously paid for.”
Obi also commended the screening committee for what he described as a professional and transparent process.
The 17-member screening committee was constituted by the NDC to oversee the screening of presidential, governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives aspirants ahead of the party primaries.
The panel is chaired by former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu, while the party’s National Legal Adviser, Reuben Egwuaba, serves as secretary.
The development comes amid increasing political consultations and alignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition parties continue discussions around possible alliances and coalition strategies.
Meanwhile, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso revealed that Obi paid him a courtesy visit shortly after the screening exercise.
Sharing photos from the meeting, Kwankwaso wrote: “Last night, I received a courtesy visit from my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, shortly after his successful screening as the presidential aspirant of our party, the NDC.
“The future is bright and full of promise.”
