NUC Begins Resource Verification at Dennis Osadebay University

The NUC delegation commenced the verification exercise at Dennis Osadebay University as part of the regulatory process required before a university can introduce postgraduate programmes.

Receiving the delegation, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Aghalino, said the exercise provided an opportunity for the university to assess its preparedness and identify areas requiring further improvement.

Aghalino assured the NUC team of the university’s full cooperation, stressing that management was committed to meeting the standards required for the successful commencement of postgraduate education.

NUC Assesses DOU Academic and Physical Resources

Speaking on behalf of the NUC team leads, Prof. Haruna Lawal said the exercise was not merely an inspection but a constructive assessment of the university’s strengths and areas that needed improvement.

He said the team would assess academic staffing, physical infrastructure, laboratories, classrooms, academic staff offices, library resources, research facilities, documentation and other requirements for effective postgraduate teaching and supervision.

The team subsequently inspected facilities across the university, including lecture halls, laboratories, academic staff offices, library facilities, electronic databases and other infrastructure relevant to teaching and research.

The university’s academic and support staff strength and relevant institutional documents were also reviewed.

NUC Identifies Areas Requiring Improvement

At the end of the exercise, the various team leads presented their preliminary observations to the university management.

While commending DOU for facilities already provided, particularly the accommodation available for academic staff offices, the NUC team identified areas requiring further attention.

These included infrastructure, academic manpower, library resources, research facilities and documentation.

The findings are expected to guide the university as it works towards meeting the requirements for the proposed postgraduate programmes.

Postgraduate Programmes Assessed by NUC

The resource verification covered several academic disciplines proposed for postgraduate education at Dennis Osadebay University.

Among the programmes assessed were Chemistry, Economics, Agricultural Economics and Extension, Geology and International Relations, alongside other proposed programmes.

The assessment is intended to determine whether the university has the necessary resources to provide quality postgraduate teaching, research and supervision in the various disciplines.

Aghalino Pledges Commitment to Postgraduate Standards

Aghalino reaffirmed the university management’s determination to establish postgraduate programmes that meet both national and international standards.

“We are not afraid of challenges. We are here to tackle them headlong,” he said.

He said the university would continue working to improve its infrastructure, manpower and academic resources in response to the NUC’s observations.

NUC Commends DOU for Cooperation

The NUC team commended Dennis Osadebay University for its openness and cooperation throughout the verification exercise.

The university management, in turn, pledged to sustain efforts towards providing the infrastructure, academic manpower, research facilities and other resources required for the successful commencement of quality postgraduate programmes.
