The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports describing Haruna Garba Gololo, popularly known as Garus Gololo, as a retired Nigerian Army General, describing the claim as false, misleading, and capable of creating public misunderstanding.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Nigerian Army reacted to a publication titled: “Retired Nigerian Army General Arrested in Abuja After Criticising Senate President Akpabio Over 2027 Comments,” which was published by Sahara Reporters.
The Army clarified that Haruna Garba Gololo has never served as a General in the Nigerian Army and is also not a retired military officer.
According to the statement, the description of Gololo as a retired General was inaccurate and capable of creating wrong impressions among members of the public.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to categorically state that Mr Haruna Garba Gololo is neither a retired officer nor a General in the Nigerian Army,” the statement read.

The military institution further urged media organisations to exercise professionalism, accuracy, fairness, and due diligence in reports concerning the Armed Forces and other national institutions.
The Nigerian Army also called on relevant media platforms to correct the alleged misrepresentation to prevent the spread of misinformation capable of undermining institutional integrity and public confidence.
Reaffirming its constitutional responsibilities, the Army stated that it remains committed to professionalism, transparency, and the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
