The army has successfully rescued six abducted civilians during a counter-terrorism operation in Ngoshe community, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The victims, mostly women and children, were freed in the early hours of May 1, 2026, near Amuda, a deserted area between Ngoshe and Gava known for terrorist activity.
According to a statement by the spokesperson for the Joint Task Force (North East), ‘Operation HADIN KAI’, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, troops carried out the rescue following sustained offensives, including recent airstrikes targeting terrorist hideouts in the Mandara Mountains.
The army revealed that the victims had been abducted during the March 3, 2026 attack on Ngoshe and were held captive in Gava before managing to escape.

Troops reportedly encountered sporadic gunfire from fleeing terrorists attempting to recapture the victims but responded swiftly, forcing the insurgents to retreat into nearby mountainous terrain.
The rescued civilians received immediate medical attention at a military facility and were later reunited with their families.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations across the North-East, noting that continued pressure on terrorist groups has significantly weakened their structure and coordination.
