The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed reports claiming that it has joined calls for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign.

The federation described the reports, particularly those circulating on social media, as false and urged the public to disregard them.
The NFF made its position known in a statement posted on its official X account on Saturday.
“Contrary to reports, especially on social media, @thenff has never asked and is not asking for @FIFAcom President, Mr. Gianni Infantino to step down as FIFA PRESIDENT,” the federation stated.
“This is outright falsehood. Kindly disregard,” it added.
The clarification comes amid mounting criticism of Infantino from some European football associations over his controversial FIFA forward enterprise proposal, which was aimed at attracting external investment into FIFA competitions.

Although the proposal was later withdrawn, football associations in England, Wales and Norway have reportedly called for Infantino to leave office.
The development had sparked reports suggesting that the NFF was also backing the campaign against the FIFA president. However, the Nigerian federation firmly rejected the claim.
The NFF has, in the past, publicly expressed support for Infantino’s leadership. In February, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau praised what he described as the FIFA president’s “decade of transformative leadership.”
The Nigerian federation has also submitted a letter backing Infantino’s bid for re-election as FIFA president in 2027.
The latest clarification therefore reinforces the NFF’s stated position that it remains supportive of Infantino and is not part of any campaign seeking his removal.
