England international Ivan Toney has been charged with assault following an alleged incident at a nightclub in central London.
The 30-year-old Al-Ahli striker was charged on July 31 in connection with an incident reported on Wardour Street, Soho, on December 6.
Toney faces a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 24.
The former Brentford forward, who featured for England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, started the Three Lions’ 6-4 victory over France in the tournament’s third-place play-off.
He also came on as a late substitute during England’s 2-1 semi-final defeat to Argentina, with the France game being his only start at the tournament.

Reacting to the charge, a spokesperson for Toney said the player acknowledged the allegation but was surprised by the development.
“Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court,” the spokesperson said.
Toney began his professional career with Northampton Town before later playing for Newcastle United, Peterborough United and Brentford.
He moved to Saudi Arabia in 2024 to join Al-Ahli and has since continued his career in the Saudi Pro League.
The striker’s selection for England’s 2026 World Cup squad had initially attracted attention, with his involvement increasing during the knockout stages.
The case is now before the courts, where Toney is expected to have the opportunity to respond formally to the allegation.
