Some supporters who attended an All Progressives Congress (APC) mobilisation rally in Kano State have protested over an alleged N3,000 payment they received after the event, saying the money was not enough to cover their transportation expenses.

The protesters, some of whom spoke in Hausa in a video, expressed anger over what they considered inadequate compensation after travelling to attend the political gathering.

One of the participants, identified as Shuaibu, claimed that some supporters spent between N1,000 and N1,500 on transportation to the venue, with some allegedly borrowing money to make their way back home.

“If this is how the journey would be, we will not support again. You can’t call us to Kano. You did not give birth to us,” Shuaibu said.

He said the supporters arrived as early as 7am and participated fully in the mobilisation before receiving the alleged N3,000 payment.

“We came out since 7 a.m. Some spent N1,000, some spent N1,500, and we gave you N3,000. Before we return, we borrowed money,” he said.

Shuaibu warned that the experience could discourage some participants from attending future APC campaign activities.

“If this is what is going to happen in the future, we will not be part of this campaign again. We supported you fully. We will not be going again,” he added.

The protest followed an APC political mobilisation in Kano, where the party inaugurated a support structure for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

Video footage from the event showed several supporters wearing APC-branded shirts questioning the amount allegedly given to them after the rally.

The complaint has highlighted the expectations and challenges surrounding political mobilisation, particularly where participants incur transportation and other expenses to attend party events.

It remains unclear who authorised the alleged N3,000 payment or whether the amount was officially designated as transportation support for participants.

The APC has not publicly responded to the protesters’ complaints as of the time of filing this report.
