Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party is maintaining a slim lead in the ongoing collation of results from Saturday’s Osun State governorship election as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to upload results to its Result Viewing Portal.

As of 7:20 p.m., 2,862 of the 3,763 expected polling-unit results, representing 76.06 per cent, had been uploaded to the INEC portal.

Results available on the Nigeria Elections Intelligence System showed that figures from 303 of the state’s 332 wards had been collated, with Adeleke polling 177,572 votes, representing 50.5 percent of the votes recorded so far.

His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, had secured 158,588 votes, representing 45.1 percent.

Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress was a distant third with 5,917 votes as of the time of filing this report.

Collation was still ongoing across the state’s 30 local government areas.

The figures showed that 361,500 voters were accredited out of 845,100 registered voters in the affected wards, representing a voter turnout of 42.8 percent.

A total of 351,500 valid votes had so far been recorded, while 7,200 ballots were rejected.

At his polling unit in Ede North Local Government Area, Adeleke recorded a decisive victory.

Results announced by the Presiding Officer, Adebimpe Susan Dunsin, at Unit 009, Abogunde/Sagba, showed Adeleke polling 421 votes, while Oyebamiji scored 29 votes and Salaam secured one vote.

Only 457 of the 1,082 registered voters at the polling unit turned out to vote before the exercise ended at 4:15 p.m.

Adeleke, who is seeking a second term in office, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Accord Party ahead of the election.

INEC had cleared 14 political parties to contest the election after the PDP and Labour Party failed to field candidates.

Adeleke is contesting with Kola Adenusi as his running mate, while Oyebamiji, a former managing director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, is contesting alongside Benjamin Adereti.

The final outcome of the election will be determined after the completion of collation from all outstanding wards.

INEC’s returning officer is expected to formally declare the winner at the state collation centre once the outstanding results have been received and verified.

# Andy Ruiz Jr Loses Comeback Fight to Damian Knyba, Calls for Rematch **By Paul Joseph** Former heavyweight world champion **Andy Ruiz Jr** suffered defeat in his long-awaited return to the ring, losing to Poland’s Damian Knyba by unanimous decision at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. ### Key Highlights * Andy Ruiz Jr lost his comeback fight to Damian Knyba by unanimous decision. * The judges scored the bout 117-110, 114-113 and 114-113 for Knyba. * Ruiz suffered a seventh-round knockdown during the contest. * The former heavyweight champion blamed ring rust and Knyba’s frequent clinching. * Ruiz immediately called for a rematch. * The 36-year-old had not fought since his August 2024 draw with Jarrell Miller. * Ruiz said he remains determined to continue his boxing career. The 36-year-old Mexican-American boxer was competing for the first time in two years as he attempted to revive a career that reached its peak in 2019 when he stunned Britain’s Anthony Joshua to capture the unified heavyweight world titles. Ruiz struggled to find his rhythm throughout the contest and was knocked down in the seventh round. Although he recovered and completed the fight, Knyba maintained enough control to secure victory on the judges’ scorecards. The judges awarded the fight to Knyba by scores of **117-110, 114-113 and 114-113**, giving the Polish heavyweight the biggest victory of his career and improving his professional record to 18 wins and one defeat. ### Ruiz Calls for Rematch Despite the setback, Ruiz immediately expressed interest in a rematch, arguing that Knyba’s repeated clinching prevented him from effectively unleashing his combinations. “He held a lot whenever I tried to come in, and I couldn’t get my combinations going,” Ruiz said. “He had a good game plan, but I’d love to run it back and do things differently.” Ruiz also admitted that his long absence from competitive boxing affected his performance, describing ring rust as one of the factors behind his difficult outing. His previous fight was an August 2024 draw against American heavyweight Jarrell Miller. ### Ruiz Remains Determined to Continue Career The former world champion recently linked up with British promoter Eddie Hearn and said he remains committed to extending his professional career despite the defeat. “I’ve still got it in me. I’ve just got to stay active and I want to fight again,” Ruiz said. The defeat leaves Ruiz with a professional record of **35 wins, including 22 knockouts, one draw and three losses**. For Ruiz, the loss represents another setback in his attempt to return to the top of the heavyweight division, but his immediate call for a rematch suggests he intends to remain active and continue his comeback. ### SEO Keywords Andy Ruiz Jr, Andy Ruiz Jr comeback fight, Andy Ruiz Jr vs Damian Knyba, Damian Knyba, Andy Ruiz Jr defeat, Andy Ruiz Jr rematch, Andy Ruiz Jr latest news, Andy Ruiz Jr boxing, Andy Ruiz Jr record, heavyweight boxing, Andy Ruiz Jr Anthony Joshua, Prudential Center boxing, boxing comeback, heavyweight division, Eddie Hearn, Jarrell Miller, boxing news.
