Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, began their campaign at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup with a disappointing 99-81 defeat to South Korea in Berlin, Germany.
The African champions struggled to contain South Korea’s sustained offensive pressure as the Asian side took control of the Group B encounter and maintained their advantage for much of the game.
Despite showing determination and making efforts to remain within reach of their opponents, D’Tigress were unable to mount a strong enough comeback, with South Korea eventually sealing an 18-point victory.
The defeat also extended Nigeria’s difficult record against Asian opposition at the global tournament, while D’Tigress remain without a victory in their opening fixture at the Women’s World Cup.
