Nollywood actor-turned-politician and Lagos State lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has officially withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Surulere I Constituency seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The decision comes amid growing tension and controversy surrounding the party’s primary process in the area.
Key Highlights:
Elliot announced his withdrawal during the APC primary exercise at Paddington Mini Stadium on Western Avenue on Wednesday, citing intimidation, political victimisation, and restricted access for his supporters at the voting venue.
He described the environment as one that threatened both fairness and peace during the election.
Having represented Surulere I since 2015 and seeking another term, Elliot said he stepped down to prevent potential violence or a breakdown of law and order.
He also called on APC leaders to ensure transparency and fairness in the conduct of party primaries across Lagos State.

Prior to the primary, Elliot had raised concerns about the alleged intimidation of his supporters and the reported withdrawal of his security aides, fueling speculation about internal party conflicts.
The contest had attracted significant attention following growing support for rival aspirant Barakat Odunuga-Bakare within the Surulere APC structure.
Political analysts suggest that Elliot’s withdrawal could reshape the political landscape in Surulere ahead of the 2027 elections, while also highlighting deepening divisions within the Lagos APC ahead of the party’s final candidate selections.
