The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has scheduled its national trials for Saturday, June 20, and Monday, June 22, 2026, at the Yabatech Sports Complex, Yaba, Lagos State, to select track and field athletes who will represent the country at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The arrival date for the trials, which will feature 32 events for men and women, is Friday, June 19, while departure is Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
A statement by AFN’s Media Coordinator, Kola Oredipe, says the technical committee led by Mr. Gabriel Okon has released qualifying standards for both Nigerian and foreign-based athletes.
It notes that while athletes for 100m, 200m, and 400m men and women would be eligible to participate based on the set standards, other track and field events will remain open for participation.

The statement emphasized that the federation will provide accommodation for athletes who made the standard within the year under review, with names of qualified athletes expected to be published soon.
It further notes that the Secretary-General of the AFN, Mr. Israel Inwang, has issued letters of invitation to state directors of sports, chairmen of state athletics associations, coaches, managers, military, para-military athletics bodies, and athletics clubs for participation.
The statement added that the President of the AFN, Chief Tonobok Okowa, is inviting stakeholders and athletics fans from across the country to prepare to be part of the national trials.
The AFN boss commended the National Sports Commission (NSC) for its support to the federation and athletes.
