Church holds funeral service for victims of Owo attack

Tears flowed freely on Friday as Catholic Diocese of Ondo held a funeral service for the victims of the June 5th, 2022, terror attack at the Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The service, held at the Mydas Event and Resort, Owo, was attended by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, his wife, Betty, immediate past Governor of the state, Dr Segun Mimiko, APC Chieftain, Chief Olusola Oke, and prominent indigenes of the state. Speaking at the service, the Bishop of Oyo Catholic Diocese, Ayo Badejo, condemned the killing of worshippers and described it as brutal and coarse without any defence.

Mr Badejo applauded people that had in one way or the other brought succor to the victims of the attack. He said the attack was blasphemy on the body of Christ and humanity, saying the lives of children between the age of two and three were lost in the incident.

“None of the victims did anything wrong before their sudden death. Although they are dead, we have relief that they are in the hands of Jesus Christ.” Badejo, who said Christian who died in Christ Jesus have hope in the resurrection, urged them to decline to be crushed.

He tasked the Federal Government and other stakeholders to address the killings across the country. However, the state Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu regurgitated his administration’s responsibility to the safety of lives and property of residents.

The governor condemned the attack and called for the immediate rejig of the country’s security architecture.
