There was panic, Saturday, as a two-storey building under construction collapsed upon workers in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The two-storey building which is located on Daily Independent street, Okpanam was said to have collapsed during the early morning downpour in the state.
It was gathered that some of the trapped workers have been rescued while the search for others continues.
Narrating their ordeal, one of the workers at the scene, who pleaded anonymity, said that the workers were injured in the course of jumping from the second decking to escape being trapped, though some escaped unhurt.

He stated that the injured victims were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
He said, “The workers have all deserted the site while the site Engineer is said to have taken to his heels to escape arrest and anger of the residents around.
One of the victims who was trapped inside the rubble called from inside and the rescue team luckily located him and others.”
At the time of reporting, the state government is yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of the collapse or the total number of individuals affected by the incident.
Calls and messages to the Commissioner for Housing, Delta state, were not answered or replied.
However, an official of the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, who identified himself as John said they are on ground.
“Our men are on the ground to help in the rescue mission,” he added.
