A 10-year- old boy, identified as Destiny Emafakpoto has drowned in one of the beaches located at Oteri-Ughelli community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was learned that Destiny had gone with his friends to swim at the beach when the unfortunate incident occurred.
A source in the community said that a seer had warned members of the community from going to the river to either bath or swim before the drowning incident.
“A little boy allegedly drowned in Oteri River; they refused to heed to the warning even making mockery of the river goddess. The body is still under the water as the corpse is yet to be recovered,” the source added.

President general of Oteri-Ughelli community, Chief Simon Egbe could not be contacted for his comment as at the time of this report.
A police source from the Ughelli area command who confirmed the identity of the deceased as Destiny Emafakpoto, said: “Yes, search and rescue has been initiated.”
As at the time of this report, an unconfirmed source disclosed that the remains of the dead boy had been recovered and buried according to the customs and traditions of the community.
