Beneficiaries of the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme across the 25 local government areas of the state have expressed appreciation to the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, following the payment of their April 2026 monthly stipends.

The beneficiaries, who confirmed receipt of their stipends, described the gesture as a major relief amid prevailing economic challenges, noting that the programme had continued to improve their welfare and living conditions.

Speaking in Asaba, the Coordinator of the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme, Elder Isioma Okonta, commended Gov. Oborevwori for sustaining developmental and social investment programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable persons across the state.

Okonta disclosed that the Delta State Social Investment Office would commence a routine verification and update of the social register of beneficiaries on Monday, May 10, 2026, across the 25 local government areas of the state.

According to him, the exercise is part of efforts to maintain an updated database of widows enrolled in the scheme and to ascertain the current status of beneficiaries.

He explained that the update would help identify widows who may have remarried as well as those who may have passed away, to ensure transparency and effective management of the programme.

The coordinator further revealed that officials of the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme would also be present in the various local government areas to continue the ongoing free registration of widows into the health insurance scheme.

He noted that the initiative would enable beneficiaries to access free medical care in accredited healthcare facilities closest to them.

Okonta also announced that the routine prayer sessions organised by beneficiaries of the widows welfare scheme for Gov. Oborevwori, his family and the peace and progress of Delta State would continue to hold across the various local government areas.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Social Investment Office to ensuring that the widows welfare programme remains impactful and beneficial to vulnerable women across the state.
