Prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Chief Hycienth Ngwu, has called on political heavyweights across the country to dump opposition parties and rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his determined push to restructure and revive Nigeria’s ailing economy.

Chief Ngwu, a former South-East Publicity Secretary of the APC, made the passionate appeal during a media interaction on Friday in Enugu, as he applauded the wave of recent defections to the ruling party. He described the trend as a clear sign of confidence in President Tinubu’s bold reforms and visionary leadership.

According to Ngwu, Nigeria’s economic woes stem from deep structural problems that previous administrations failed to address with lasting solutions. He said Tinubu’s unique approach, right from day one in office, has signaled a break from the past and placed the country on a path of sustainable transformation.

“Our economy has long been structurally defective. For years, leaders applied the same outdated solutions, expecting different results. President Tinubu broke that cycle,” Ngwu stated. “He introduced pragmatic and strategic reforms from the outset. What we are witnessing today is the early sign of a turnaround — the darkness before the dawn.”

Ngwu stressed that the ongoing economic reforms may be tough in the short term, but they are necessary for long-term prosperity. He urged Nigerians to be patient and prayerful, while calling for full support to ensure that Tinubu’s economic blueprint is implemented without distractions.

“The future of this country depends on our unity and collective sacrifice. For the sake of our children and generations to come, we must put aside partisan politics and support Tinubu’s second term agenda,” Ngwu said.

He further encouraged politicians, especially from the South-East, to reconsider their political alignment and embrace the APC for deeper inclusion in the national political mainstream. Ngwu insisted that the South-East stands to benefit immensely by adopting a strategic shift toward the ruling party, especially in light of the current political realignment sweeping across Nigeria.

“The time is now for the South-East to reposition itself. Political leaders should defect to the APC or, at the very least, support President Tinubu’s re-election efforts even from within their own parties,” he said. “History will not be kind to those who allow personal or partisan interests to derail this moment of national rebirth.”

As Nigeria grapples with inflation, subsidy removal, and currency reforms, Ngwu’s comments echo growing calls from within the APC for unity and political realignment ahead of the next election cycle. The party is hoping that growing defections and broader national support will solidify Tinubu’s bid for a second term and secure the continuity of his economic agenda.
