Justice Maryanne Anineh of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on Monday, admitted additional exhibits presented by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC ), in the ongoing trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, over the alleged unlawful redesign of the naira.
The exhibits, which included certified newspaper publications and payment receipts, were tendered through the eighth prosecution witness, Jegede Oluwasegun, an official of the National Library.

Led in evidence by prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), the witness presented certified copies of publications from The Punch, ThisDay, Vanguard, Daily Sun, and The Nation, all containing reports related to the alleged unlawful naira redesign policy.
Oyedepo told the court that the documents were produced in compliance with a motion on notice earlier filed by the defence on March 31, 2026, requesting the prosecution to provide all press releases and newspaper publications concerning the alleged unlawful act.

Defence counsel, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), did not object to the tendering of the documents, following which the court admitted them as exhibits.
During cross-examination, Oluwasegun explained that his responsibilities at the National Library were limited to attending to readers’ information requests and certifying newspaper documents.
He clarified that he neither authored the publications nor had personal knowledge of their contents.
Emefiele is currently facing a four-count charge filed by the EFC, over the alleged unlawful printing and redesign of naira notes.
