Adamawa rural electrification received a major boost as Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding access to electricity through renewable energy projects, flagging off and commissioning solar hybrid mini-grid schemes across several communities in the state.

Speaking during separate ceremonies in Michika and Shuwa, Governor Fintiri said the projects are designed to provide reliable electricity to communities in Michika, Madagali, Baza and Muchala, supplying power to homes, businesses, schools and healthcare facilities.
The governor recalled that when his administration assumed office in 2019, many communities in northern Adamawa were still recovering from the devastation caused by insurgency, which destroyed electricity infrastructure and other public facilities.
Although electricity was later restored through the national grid, Fintiri noted that repeated attacks on transmission facilities highlighted the need for more reliable and sustainable energy solutions.
He disclosed that the partnership between the Adamawa State Government and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has attracted private sector investment, leading to the approval of about 40 solar hybrid mini-grid projects aimed at expanding electricity access to underserved communities across the state.
According to the governor, the renewable energy projects will stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, improve healthcare delivery and enhance access to education.
Fintiri also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing policies that encourage investments in renewable energy and praised A4&T Nigeria Limited for investing in Adamawa’s energy sector.
The Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Engineer Suleiman Muhammed, described the projects as another milestone in the state’s drive to expand electricity access to rural communities and promote sustainable development.
Officials of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), traditional rulers and other stakeholders also commended the intervention and urged residents to protect the facilities to ensure their long-term sustainability.
In Madagali Local Government Area, Governor Fintiri also commissioned and flagged off another batch of solar hybrid mini-grid projects serving Shuwa, Gulak, Kwakwaah, Kuva Gaya and Dirdiu communities across Madagali, Hong and Ganye local government areas.
He said the projects align with his administration’s infrastructure development agenda and commitment to improving the living conditions of rural residents.
The governor directed contractors handling the projects to deliver quality work within the stipulated timeframe while prioritising the employment of local residents during construction.

Engineer Suleiman Muhammed said the projects would provide reliable electricity to thousands of residents, improve economic productivity and strengthen access to essential social services.
Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Aliyu, alongside other stakeholders, described the collaboration between the Adamawa State Government and development partners as a significant step towards expanding access to clean, reliable and sustainable energy.
Community leaders expressed appreciation to Governor Fintiri for the intervention, noting that the projects would boost commercial activities, improve healthcare and education services, and enhance the quality of life of residents in the benefiting communities.
