Thousands of electricity consumers in parts of Abuja have been without power as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) works to repair a fault at the Kubwa 132/33kV Transmission Substation and restore electricity supply to affected communities.
TCN said on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, that its maintenance team was working to fix a fault affecting the 33kV NIPP feeder at the substation.

Kubwa Feeder Fault Disrupts Abuja Power Supply
According to TCN, the 33kV NIPP feeder initially tripped at about 9:39 a.m. on Sunday after an earth fault was detected.
Following an inspection by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) maintenance team, the feeder was certified ready for restoration.
However, an attempt to restore electricity at about 6:34 p.m. on the same day resulted in another trip caused by overcurrent and an earth fault.
TCN said the second incident damaged the blue-phase interrupter head of the feeder’s circuit breaker.
The damage prevented AEDC from receiving bulk electricity through the affected feeder for onward distribution to several communities.

Communities Affected by Abuja Power Outage
The affected areas include:
- FO1
- Dantata Estate
- Byazhin
- Byazhin Across
- Gbazango
The outage has left residents and businesses in the affected communities without normal electricity supply while TCN and AEDC work to resolve the technical fault.
TCN Begins Repairs
TCN said its maintenance personnel remain at the site and are focused on completing repairs to the damaged circuit breaker.
The company apologised to electricity consumers affected by the outage and assured them that bulk power supply would be restored to AEDC once the repairs are completed.
AEDC will subsequently distribute the restored bulk electricity to customers in the affected communities.
TCN did not give a specific time for completion of the repairs but said its maintenance team was working to restore supply as soon as possible.
