The Federal Government has condemned the killing of farmers in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State, describing the attack as unacceptable and a threat to the safety of farming communities.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, expressed concern over the incident, warning that attacks on farmers could undermine efforts to create a safe and productive environment for agricultural activities.
Kyari called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect farmers and other rural residents against attacks, while urging them to apprehend those responsible for the killings.
He also called for intensified search and rescue efforts for the farmers who remain missing following the attack.
According to the minister, the safety of farmers is essential to sustaining agricultural production and strengthening Nigeria’s food security.
Fifteen farmers were reportedly killed by suspected terrorists while working on their farms in the area, while three others were reported missing.
