Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled a coordinated multi-directional assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Kukawa, Borno State, killing more than 25 attackers and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition.

The terrorists reportedly launched the coordinated attack on troops of the 101 Special Forces Battalion from four different flanks in an attempt to overwhelm the military position.
However, the soldiers mounted stiff resistance, deploying superior firepower, tactical manoeuvres and coordinated battlefield operations to frustrate the assault.
Troops Repel ISWAP Attack in Kukawa
Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed details of the encounter in a statement.
Goni said the troops, supported by the air component of the task force, successfully repelled the terrorists after a fierce engagement.
According to him, the operation inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers and forced surviving fighters to flee the area.
The military spokesman said a preliminary assessment showed that more than 25 terrorists were neutralised, while troops had so far recovered 14 bodies from the area.
Military Recovers AK-47 Rifles, Ammunition
Goni added that troops conducting exploitation operations recovered weapons and ammunition abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
Among the weapons recovered were six AK-47 rifles, while further searches of the operational area are ongoing.
The military said the exploitation operation is aimed at recovering additional weapons, tracking fleeing terrorists and preventing them from regrouping.
Soldiers Killed in Borno Encounter
The military spokesman also disclosed that some soldiers were killed during the encounter, underscoring the intensity of the battle.
The Nigerian Army extended its condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, describing their sacrifice and devotion to duty as a testament to their service to the nation.
The Army said the successful repulsion of the terrorist attack demonstrated the combat readiness and resilience of troops operating in the North-East Theatre.

Operation HADIN KAI Intensifies Counter-Terrorism Operations
The military also highlighted the importance of coordinated air and ground operations in disrupting terrorist activities and preventing attacks on military positions and surrounding communities.
It assured residents that offensive operations, intelligence-led patrols and coordinated actions with other security agencies would continue across the North-East Theatre.
According to the Army, the measures are aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, preventing their regrouping and protecting communities, lives and property across the region.
The latest encounter is part of ongoing military efforts to sustain pressure on terrorist groups operating in the North-East, particularly through coordinated ground and air operations.
