Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, has appointed Dr. Engr. Suleiman Samaila as Acting Rector, six months after Dr. Harrison Edan Mbasumai assumed the position in an acting capacity.
The institution’s Governing Council approved the appointment during an emergency meeting held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Polytechnic’s Conference Hall. The appointment took immediate effect, according to a letter signed by Council Chairman Professor Cyril Michael Ubale.

Mbasumai was appointed Acting Rector on April 2, 2026, following the expiration of the tenure of the previous administration. His six-month acting tenure has now elapsed, leading to Samaila’s appointment to oversee the institution pending the selection of a substantive Rector.
Samaila’s Previous Roles at Adamawa Poly
Before his appointment, Samaila served as Director of the Entrepreneurship Study Centre at Adamawa State Polytechnic. He also previously served as Dean of the School of Engineering, Science and Technology, where he handled academic and administrative responsibilities.
His roles within the Polytechnic are expected to provide continuity as he assumes responsibility for the institution’s administration.
Polytechnic Begins Process for Substantive Rector
Samaila’s appointment is an interim arrangement intended to ensure continuity in the administration of Adamawa State Polytechnic while the process of appointing a substantive Rector is concluded.
The position has reportedly been advertised, with the institution expected to proceed with the necessary selection process. As Acting Rector, Samaila is expected to oversee the day-to-day administration of the Polytechnic in the meantime.
