Veteran journalist and Eagle Online publisher, Dotun Oladipo, has died suddenly at the age of 56, leaving colleagues and members of Nigeria’s media community mourning his death.

Oladipo, who was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited, reportedly fell ill suddenly at his office on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Eagle Online announced his death on Wednesday, describing the development as a shock to his colleagues, friends and associates. The publication said he had been in his usual state of health earlier in the day before taking ill.

The death was also confirmed by the President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, Danlami Nmodu, who announced the development on the guild’s WhatsApp platform.

Oladipo had previously served as president of the guild and was widely regarded by colleagues as a veteran journalist who made notable contributions to Nigeria’s media industry.

The General Secretary of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society, Nkanu Egbe, also announced the death, describing it as a devastating loss to the organisation and Nigerian journalism.

“Mr Oladipo led our cooperative with dedication, alongside a distinguished journalism career spanning nearly three decades. His passing is a devastating loss not only to IMPCMS but to Nigerian journalism as a whole,” Egbe said.

Meanwhile, African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore described Oladipo as a “complete gentleman, accomplished digital journalist and remarkable human being.”

Sowore expressed condolences to Oladipo’s family, friends and colleagues, as well as the wider community of digital journalists in Nigeria.

Oladipo’s journalism career spanned nearly three decades. He served as Politics Editor at PUNCH Newspapers and was also a member of the newspaper’s editorial board.

After leaving PUNCH, he worked with Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass and The Sun before establishing Eagle Online.

Oladipo obtained a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta, in 1992.

His death has since triggered tributes from professional colleagues and associates, many of whom have described him as a thorough professional, humble media practitioner and dedicated journalist.
