Natasha Osawaru, wife of Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has emerged as the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, was announced as the new minority leader during Monday’s plenary following a reshuffling of the assembly’s principal leadership positions.
Her emergence comes after she defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in May 2026.
The new leadership arrangement was announced during a plenary session at the assembly complex in Benin City, where lawmakers reorganised several key positions following changes in party alignments within the chamber.
A statement issued by Osawaru’s media and strategic communications directorate and posted on her Facebook page, described her appointment as a significant development in the assembly.
The statement said Osawaru’s elevation reflects the confidence placed on her by her colleagues and constituents, while highlighting her previous experience in the leadership of the House.

Before her latest appointment, Osawaru served as the deputy minority leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Speaking after the plenary, Osawaru expressed appreciation to the leadership of the assembly, her fellow lawmakers and the people of Egor Constituency for their support.
She described her new position as a responsibility rather than merely a political title, pledging to use the office to promote accountability and effective representation.
“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust. Our democracy thrives on rigorous debate, accountability, and the courage to advocate for the ordinary citizen without compromise,” she said.
Osawaru also reaffirmed her commitment to the development of Edo State and the interests of her constituents.
“As minority leader, my commitment to the development of Edo State, the progress of our great party, the NDC, and the prosperity of the good people of Egor remains absolute,” she added.
The development also comes amid continuing political realignments in Edo State, with lawmakers changing party affiliations and positions ahead of the next phase of the state’s political activities.
