The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOC Africa) has hailed Nigeria on its impressive performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
President of ANOC Africa, Mustapha Berraf, conveyed the congratulatory message to the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Habu Gumel, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
Berraf commended Team Nigeria for its outstanding showing at the Games, which held from July 23 to August 2, describing the achievement as a reflection of the rigorous preparation, clear vision and unwavering commitment of the athletes, coaches, administrators and other stakeholders working to advance sports in the country.
“These performances are the result of rigorous work, a clear vision, and the unwavering commitment of all those who work daily to promote sport in your country,” Berraf said.
He added that Nigeria’s achievements extended beyond its national borders, noting that the performances resonated across Africa and further demonstrated the growing influence of African nations on the global sporting stage.

“They resonate across the African continent as a whole, and once again, confirm the growing influence of our nations on the global sports stage, further serving as a source of inspiration for African youths, who see your athletes as models of determination, discipline and excellence,” he stated.
The ANOC Africa president said the accomplishments of Nigerian athletes would inspire young sportsmen and women across the continent by demonstrating the importance of determination, discipline and excellence in achieving success.
Berraf also reaffirmed ANOC Africa’s full support for Nigeria’s continued efforts to develop and promote sports.
Team Nigeria finished the 2026 Commonwealth Games with an impressive haul of 24 medals, comprising 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals.
