Former France international Paul Pogba has left AS Monaco after the Ligue 1 club terminated his contract following just one season.
The 33-year-old midfielder had been contracted to Monaco until June 2027, but the club announced that both parties had agreed to end the deal early after the objectives set at the beginning of his spell were only partially achieved.
Pogba made just six appearances for Monaco last season, starting one match and coming off the bench in the other five.
His time at the club was disrupted by efforts to regain his best form following a doping suspension, as well as a series of injury setbacks.
“Representing this club and the principality was an incredible experience,” Pogba said.
“AS Monaco is an incredible club and although I did not play as many games as I had hoped, I will always be grateful for the opportunity to wear their colours.”

Pogba joined Monaco last summer after receiving permission to return to professional football following a doping ban imposed during his time at Juventus.
The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder maintained that the doping offence was a mistake. His four-year suspension was later reduced to 18 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, allowing him to return to competitive football in March 2025.
Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro described Pogba’s arrival as an ambitious challenge and acknowledged that his return had generated significant excitement.
“While the outcome is not what we had hoped for, it should not overshadow the enthusiasm that surrounded his return to club football, nor the fact that Paul was able to return to the pitch and to professional football during this period,” Scuro said.
“We wish Paul all the very best for the future.”
Pogba, who helped France win the 2018 FIFA World Cup, is now a free agent as he considers the next chapter of his career.
