Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has taken another swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party intensified its campaign activities in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Key Highlights

  • Davido mocks APC: Afrobeats star Davido has taken another swipe at the APC ahead of the Osun governorship election.
  • APC leaders storm Osun: Senior party figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and several governors, converged on Osogbo for the party’s final campaign rally.
  • APC targets PDP stronghold: The party is campaigning to defeat the PDP and take control of Osun State.
  • Davido predicts APC defeat: Reacting to the APC mobilisation, Davido used a biblical reference to suggest the party would lose the election for the third time.
  • “LULE” remark: Davido wrote, “If you like gather Jesus 12 disciples o ma LULE for the 3rd time!!!!!”

Davido, who is a nephew of incumbent Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, reacted after senior APC leaders and several governors arrived in Osogbo for the party’s final campaign push ahead of the August 15 poll.

Among those who converged on the state were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, alongside other party leaders and stakeholders.

The high-powered mobilisation was part of the APC’s efforts to rally support for its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as the party seeks to wrest control of Osun from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, welcomed the APC leaders to the state in a post shared on social media, highlighting the presence of the party’s top figures for the campaign rally.

Davido later reacted to Oyetola’s post, dismissing the significance of the large political gathering and suggesting that the presence of several senior APC figures would not alter his expectation of the election outcome.

Using a biblical reference, the singer wrote: “If you like gather Jesus 12 disciples o ma LULE for the 3rd time!!!!!”

The remark was interpreted as a prediction that the APC would suffer another defeat in the state, with Davido appearing to reference the party’s previous unsuccessful attempts to secure the governorship.

Davido’s intervention comes amid an increasingly competitive contest between the major political parties, with both the APC and PDP deploying senior politicians and influential supporters in the final days of the campaign.

The singer has remained an outspoken supporter of his uncle, Governor Adeleke, throughout the election campaign and has repeatedly used his social media platforms to comment on developments surrounding the contest.

His latest remarks have therefore added another layer to the already heated political exchanges between supporters of the rival parties.

The APC has presented the mobilisation of its national leadership and governors as part of its determination to win the election and expand its political control in the South-West.

For the PDP, however, the election represents an opportunity for Adeleke to secure another term and consolidate the party’s control of the state.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), whose candidate Najeem Salaam is also among the prominent contenders, is another major participant in the contest.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Osun State governorship election for August 15, 2026, with 13 candidates on the ballot.

The final phase of the campaign has been characterised by intense political rhetoric, competing claims from the parties and increased attention on the conduct of political actors and their supporters.

Davido’s latest comment is part of a broader pattern of his involvement in the political conversation surrounding the election. In recent days, he has also reacted to controversies involving political figures and criticised what he considers attempts to influence or intimidate voters.

His comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some supporters backing his confidence in the PDP while others have criticised the singer for becoming deeply involved in partisan political debates.

Beyond the exchanges on social media, the major focus remains on the conduct of the election itself and whether voters will be allowed to freely exercise their franchise.

With the poll only days away, attention is now shifting from campaign rallies and social media exchanges to election-day security, voter participation and the ability of the competing parties to maintain peace.

The outcome will ultimately be determined by voters across Osun State, making the August 15 election a closely watched contest between the APC, PDP, ADC and other participating parties.
