The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Chief Whip of the state House of Assembly, Wale Akerele, and operatives of the Amotekun Corps of opening fire on its members during a campaign rally in Ilesa West on Saturday.

The party alleged that at least four people, including a 12-year-old boy identified as Oluwatobi Ilesanmi, were shot during the incident.

In a statement signed by Oluremi Omowaiye, Head of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council,l on Saturday, the party described the incident as an “unprovoked and violent attack” on its members.

According to the APC, its members were conducting a peaceful campaign procession in Ilesa West when Akerele allegedly arrived with armed Amotekun personnel and “opened direct fire on the crowd.”

“Scores of APC members sustained injuries while scampering for safety, four individuals, including a 12-year-old boy, Oluwatobi Ilesanmi, who was shot,” the statement said.

The party said the victims were taken to an undisclosed hospital in Ilesa for urgent medical attention.

The APC called on the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to immediately arrest and investigate Akerele and the Amotekun operatives allegedly involved in the shooting.

“We call on the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to immediately arrest and investigate Hon.

Wale Akerele and the participating Amotekun operatives,” the party said.

The APC also urged civil society organisations and other citizens to condemn what it described as the “continuous and reckless maiming of innocent citizens by the ruling party elements.”

“Our party and members remained undeterred and will not be cowed by these desperate, violent tactics of the ruling party in the state,” the statement added.
