The revered monarch received Governor Okpebholo alongside Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, describing the visit as an opportunity to celebrate leadership founded on humility and service to the people.

Welcoming the governors, the Ooni said their modesty and accessibility distinguished them from many public office holders, noting that they had remained closely connected to ordinary Nigerians despite occupying high political offices.

“We are very honoured and privileged to receive the two governors in the palace. The entire Yoruba race is happy and delighted to have governors with such rare characteristics,” the monarch said.

The Ooni described humility as one of the most important qualities of effective leadership, adding that both governors had demonstrated admirable character worthy of emulation.

“These two governors are among the most humble governors we have produced in Nigeria. Everything about them reflects humility and simplicity. They are easy-going, approachable and well connected to ordinary people. They do not carry themselves because of the high offices they occupy,” he said.

Addressing Governor Okpebholo directly, the monarch urged him to remain committed to his leadership philosophy, saying it aligns with the Yoruba concept of Omoluabi, which emphasises integrity, humility, discipline and service.

“We are here to celebrate you. I know you came to Osun State for politics, but beyond politics, we are talking about Omoluabi par excellence. Your simplicity and your approach to leadership should be sustained. That is the best way to lead the people. Keep up the good work,” the Ooni added.

Speaking on behalf of the two governors, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo said Governor Okpebholo requested that he convey their appreciation to the traditional ruler.

Ododo commended the Ooni for his continuous efforts in promoting peace, unity and stability in Osun State and across Nigeria.

“We are here to thank Your Majesty for your invaluable role in promoting peace, not only in Osun State but throughout the country,” he said.

He explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between government and traditional institutions while fostering peace, unity and national cohesion.

The palace visit also underscored Governor Okpebholo’s engagement with traditional rulers as part of his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, peacebuilding and community development.
