The Israeli parliament, the Knesset, has received a delegation of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Jerusalem.

The Knesset is the unicameral national legislature and supreme governing body of Israel.

The IPOB delegation, led by the Directorate of State, headed by Chris Nwaogu, was received by the Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, Nissim Vaturi, and Deputy Chairman of the Knesset and member of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee, Mrs. Limor Son Har-Melech.

IPOB in a statement by spokesman, Emma Powerful, described the reception as a milestone in the organization’s peaceful international diplomatic outreach.

The proscribed pro-Biafra group thanked the Knesset for the reception, which it further described as brotherly and productive.

The statement said the engagement marks a significant milestone in IPOB’s peaceful international diplomatic outreach, adding that the constructive discussions in Jerusalem echo the group’s conviction that Biafra’s redemption will be advanced through strategic partnerships with Israel and the United States of America, rooted in shared values of justice, liberty, and human dignity.

IPOB noted that the people of Biafra share common historical experiences with the Jewish people of Israel.

“The Jewish and Biafran peoples share deep historical affinities forged through persecution, discrimination, displacement, and existential threats. Israel’s rebirth in 1948 remains an enduring inspiration.

“Today, as Judeo-Christian communities and other minorities face systematic slaughter and genocide across Nigeria, Biafrans are more determined than ever to secure our own future,” the statement said.

Furthermore, IPOB said it believes that the restoration of Biafra as an independent sovereign state is the only viable and lasting solution, that will bring genuine peace, security, and stability to the South East region through the respect for human rights, self-determination, and international law.

The group disclosed that it is engaging in similar diplomatic advocacy in the United States and other countries, declaring that no amount of political pressure or financial influence can permanently suppress a peoples’ legitimate quest for freedom when pursued with dignity and in accordance with international norms.

“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to non-violent struggle, the rule of law, and constructive international engagement,” IPOB stated.
