As preparations gather momentum for the 2027 general elelections, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Taraba state, Sa’ad Idris, has emphasized the need for sustained and comprehensive collaboration among security agencies to ensure the conduct of peaceful, credible and successful elections.
Idris made the call at the weekend, during a series of familiarisation and courtesy visits to key members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).
The resident electoral commissioner stressed that effective coordination among election stakeholders, particularly security agencies, remains critical to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process before, during and after the 2027 polls.
He noted that early engagement with security agencies would strengthen election planning and enhance public confidence in the democratic process.
Responding during the visits, the security chiefs reaffirmed their commitment to supporting INEC in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
They pledged to work closely through the ICCES framework by developing robust security strategies, strengthening inter-agency cooperation and sharing intelligence to guarantee a peaceful, secure and violence-free electoral process across Taraba State.
Idris also used the opportunity to inform the security agencies of the extension of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
According to him, the exercise, which was initially scheduled to end by July 11, has now been extended to July 26, 2026, and will include registration on Saturdays and Sundays to enable more eligible citizens to register.
He further disclosed that the extended registration exercise comes with a new innovation designed to make the process more convenient for prospective voters.
Under the new arrangement, eligible Nigerians can begin their voter registration online using their personal devices before visiting any INEC registration centre to complete the biometric capture and finalize the registration process.

He urged all eligible citizens who are yet to register, those seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or update their voter information to take advantage of the extended registration period.
The visits, according to him, form part of INEC’s broader engagement with critical stakeholders as the commission intensifies preparations for the successful conduct of the 2027 general elections.
The visits took him to the offices of the state Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Hyginus Ngele, the state Commissioner of Police, Moorkwap Dongshal, and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bitrus Anthony
