Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has called on governorship candidates and their supporters to conduct peaceful, responsible and issue-based campaigns as political parties commence preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
The governor made the call through his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, in a statement on Wednesday, marking the official commencement of the 2027 governorship campaign season.
Yusuf urged political actors to base their campaigns on ideas, policies, achievements and programmes rather than insults, intimidation, character assassination or violence.
He said the people of Kano deserve an electioneering process where candidates would clearly present their programmes and explain how they intended to improve the lives of citizens.
The governor also cautioned political parties and their supporters against hate speech, provocation, destruction of property and other actions capable of undermining the relative peace in the state.
He urged his supporters to remain disciplined, respect opposing views and resist any provocation that could threaten public order.
Yusuf equally appealed to media practitioners, influencers, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publication and desist from spreading fake news, rumours and inflammatory content capable of disturbing the peace.
He called on security agencies to remain professional, impartial and vigilant throughout the campaign period, while urging political parties and campaign organisations to cooperate with them and comply with all lawful requirements.
The governor assured the people of Kano that his administration would continue to discharge its responsibilities and deliver services to the people irrespective of the political season.

He maintained that Kano was bigger than any political party or individual, noting that political competition would come and go, while the people would continue to live together as one.
He therefore called on all governorship candidates to work towards protecting the peace and unity of the state despite their political differences.
“Let us campaign with respect, compete with ideas, disagree without violence and put the interest of Kano above political differences,” he said.
The governor, however, expressed optimism that candidates of the All Progressives Congress would emerge victorious in all elective positions in the state in the 2027 elections.
