The Ndigbo for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI-ABAT) has said President Bola Tinubu could secure an electoral breakthrough for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-East in the 2027 presidential election if the party addresses the concerns of Igbo voters and adopts its recommended political strategies.

NDI-ABAT Outlines Strategy for Tinubu in South-East
NDI-ABAT maintained that the South-East remains within the APC’s electoral reach, arguing that winning the confidence of Ndigbo would require practical action, credible leadership and sustained grassroots engagement rather than political propaganda, ceremonial endorsements or rented crowds.
The forum made its position known in a statement issued on Monday by its National Coordinator, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Secretary-General, Ugwuoke Ugwuoke Jr., and made available to journalists.
According to the group, the APC needs to reassess its political approach in the region ahead of the 2027 presidential election if it hopes to improve on its previous electoral performances.
NDI-ABAT expressed concern that the party’s performance in the South-East during the 2015, 2019 and 2023 presidential elections points to the need for a more effective engagement strategy.
It criticised some APC leaders for failing to build meaningful relationships with grassroots communities, arguing that elite gatherings and public endorsements alone would not guarantee electoral support.
Forum Cites 2003 Election as Political Precedent
To support its argument, NDI-ABAT recalled the 2003 presidential election, when former President Olusegun Obasanjo secured support in the South-East despite the candidacy of the late Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, who contested under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The forum argued that the election demonstrated that Igbo voters could make strategic political choices based on their interests, relationships with political leaders and expectations of governance.
It said the historical example showed that Tinubu could also win support in the region against Peter Obi in 2027 if the APC developed a credible engagement strategy.
According to NDI-ABAT, the outcome would depend on the credibility of party leaders, the quality of political engagement and the ability to convince ordinary citizens that their interests would be protected.

NDI-ABAT Warns APC Against Misreading Voters’ Sentiments
The forum also questioned campaign approaches in which some candidates allegedly prioritise their personal ambitions without adequately explaining Tinubu’s policies, achievements and plans for the South-East.
It warned that misleading reports about the APC’s popularity could create a disconnect between the president and the electorate, potentially undermining the party’s efforts to gain support in the region.
NDI-ABAT urged the APC to develop a more realistic understanding of voters’ concerns and ensure that its campaign messages reflect the priorities of local communities.
The group maintained that political endorsements would have limited impact unless they were backed by visible development, meaningful engagement and policies that respond to the needs of residents.
Forum Urges Tinubu to Address South-East Grievances
NDI-ABAT appealed to Igbo voters to approach the 2027 elections with an open mind while urging the APC to acknowledge grievances linked to policies implemented under the late President Muhammadu Buhari that many Igbo citizens considered discriminatory or exclusionary.
The forum argued that meaningful reconciliation would require honesty, inclusive governance and a demonstrable commitment to fairness.
It called on Tinubu to strengthen the South-East’s participation in national development through improved infrastructure, expanded economic opportunities, equitable political representation and sustained engagement with Igbo leaders and communities.
According to the group, asking Ndigbo to support the APC without addressing their concerns would be an ineffective political strategy.
NDI-ABAT maintained that a more inclusive approach to governance and political engagement could help the party build stronger relationships with voters in the South-East ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
