The group congratulated the 13 newly elected local government chairmen and 171 councillors, particularly Engr. Osbourn Nweze Umahi, who was elected chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area.
According to the group, the electoral mandate should now translate into tangible development for residents across the state.
NDI-ABAT urged the newly elected council chairmen to immediately focus on grassroots development, accountable leadership, improved social services and people-oriented governance.
It said the true value of electoral victory should be measured by the positive impact elected officials make in the lives of citizens.
“The people of Ebonyi State deserve nothing less than committed and visionary leadership at the local government level,” the group stated.
The organisation also urged the elected chairmen to consolidate democratic governance at the grassroots as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 presidential election.
NDI-ABAT called on the council chairmen to support the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the continued leadership of Governor Francis Nwifuru in Ebonyi State.
The group acknowledged that political activities and opposition campaigns would intensify as the 2027 election approaches. It, however, expressed confidence that voters would assess political leaders based on their achievements, infrastructure projects, economic opportunities and commitment to public welfare.
“NDI-ABAT acknowledges that political activities and opposition campaigns will intensify in the months ahead. However, we are confident that the people of Ebonyi State will judge political leaders based on visible achievements, infrastructure development, economic opportunities, and genuine commitment to national progress,” the statement said.
The group further expressed confidence in Engr. Osbourn Nweze Umahi and the other 12 council chairmen, saying they possess the experience and grassroots connections needed to represent their respective communities.
It also said their performance at the local government level would be important to strengthening the political structure of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
“NDI-ABAT said it remains committed to promoting unity, development, and constructive political engagement while advocating for leadership that places the welfare of Nigerians above partisan sentiments,” the statement added.
