The approval covers the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), Professorial Allowance and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), making Yobe one of the states implementing the 2025 ASUU agreement aimed at improving lecturers’ welfare and enhancing academic excellence.

Earlier, while receiving the committee’s report, Acting SSG, Dr. Mohammed Goje, commended members of the committee for carrying out their assignment with dedication and professionalism. He expressed confidence that the recommendations would strengthen industrial harmony between the state government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Chairman of the committee and Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Muhammad Bello Kawuwa, disclosed that the committee visited several institutions, including Bauchi State University, Kaduna State University (KASU), Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano, and other state-owned universities as part of its assignment. He was represented by Prof. Mohammed Musa Lawan.

Beyond the implementation of the 2025 ASUU agreement, the committee also recommended the provision of research grants, annual salary increments, enhanced welfare incentives and sustained funding for tertiary institutions to boost research, innovation and academic excellence.

Reacting to the development, Chairman of ASUU, Yobe State University chapter, Muhammad Adam, commended Governor Buni for prioritising the welfare of academic staff and demonstrating commitment to quality education in the state.

He urged lecturers to reciprocate the government’s gesture by remaining committed to their responsibilities, promoting industrial harmony and advancing research and academic excellence in the university system.
