French football icon Zinedine Zidane is set to become the next head coach of the French national team after reportedly agreeing to a contract that will keep him in the role until June 2030.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed on Tuesday, that the agreement has been finalized, with the French Football Federation expected to officially unveil Zidane in the coming days.
According to Romano, the former Real Madrid manager will lead Les Bleus into the 2027 UEFA Nations League, UEFA Euro 2028, and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, marking his first coaching role at international level.
Zidane, 54, has been out of management since leaving Real Madrid in 2021 after his second spell at the Spanish club.
During his time at the Santiago Bernabéu, he built an outstanding managerial record, guiding Madrid to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018.

He also won two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Super Cups, and two FIFA Club World Cups, making him one of the most successful managers in the club’s history.
The former France captain has long been tipped to succeed Didier Deschamps, who has managed the national team since 2012 and is expected to step down following France’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
A key figure in France’s 1998 FIFA World Cup-winning team, Zidane has previously expressed his ambition to one day coach the national side, making the reported appointment a widely anticipated move.
Although the French Football Federation has yet to officially confirm the appointment, reports indicate that the deal has been completed, with an announcement expected soon.
