The bank recorded a profit before tax of ₦361 billion for the first quarter ended March 31, 2026, representing a 3 percent year-on-year increase and the highest pre-tax profit among Nigeria’s seven largest banks. Gross earnings climbed to ₦1.01 trillion, while net interest income rose to ₦634.1 billion and net fee and commission income surged by 44.6 percent to ₦81 billion, reflecting stronger earnings from transaction banking and digital services.
Zenith Bank also strengthened its balance sheet during the period. Customer deposits increased to ₦24.47 trillion, shareholders’ equity rose to ₦5.17 trillion, while gross loans expanded to ₦12.04 trillion. At the same time, the bank maintained one of the industry’s strongest asset quality indicators, with its non-performing loan ratio declining significantly from previous levels.
Its financial strength is further supported by a capital adequacy ratio of about 25 percent, comfortably above regulatory requirements, providing sufficient capacity to support future lending, absorb potential shocks and finance international expansion.
Zenith Bank’s outstanding performance received international recognition after it secured a historic double at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026, where it was named Africa’s Best Bank and Nigeria’s Best Bank. The recognition adds to a growing list of international honours earned by the lender over the years.
