Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Wike commended the church for undertaking the project and recalled the lengthy process involved in securing official approval for its construction.
The minister disclosed that the Dunamis Church first submitted its application to the Federal Capital Territory Administration in 2018, but had to wait several years before receiving authorisation.
According to him, the church renewed its request in February 2026, prompting the administration to process and approve the application within one month.
“You applied for approval to build this pedestrian bridge in 2018. It was in February 2026 when you sent a reminder about the application you made in 2018.
“It didn’t take you more than a month after that reminder, and you got the approval,” Wike said.
He called on Nigerians to recognise positive actions by public officials, while continuing to demand accountability when government institutions fail to meet expectations.
“If a government does well, say they’ve done well. If they’ve not done well, you can say we’re looking forward to you doing this,” he added.
Enenche Thanks Minister
The Founder and Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Paul Enenche, expressed appreciation to the minister for facilitating the approval.
Enenche explained that the church had made repeated attempts over six years to secure permission for the pedestrian bridge without success.
He thanked Wike for granting the approval in 2026, which enabled the church to proceed with the project.

Light Exchange Over Politics
The inauguration also featured a light exchange between the minister and the cleric over political discussions at the event.
Wike disclosed that Enenche had requested that he avoid campaigning during the ceremony.
Responding to the request, the minister maintained that conversations about government performance were inseparable from politics.
He further observed that the pastor frequently addressed issues of poor governance during church services, suggesting that public discussions about leadership should not be restricted to political gatherings.
