Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared the nation’s capital secured for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, announcing plans to mobilise political stakeholders across party lines to deliver victory for the president.
Key Highlights
- Wike declares the FCT secured for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election.
- APC and PDP leaders in AMAC publicly back Tinubu’s second-term bid.
- Comprehensive FCT campaign council to be inaugurated next week.
- Wike defends fuel subsidy removal and cites the Apo-Karshi Road project.
- FCT PDP chairman pledges grassroots mobilisation behind Tinubu by January 16, 2027.
Wike made the declaration on Wednesday in Abuja, during a meeting with political leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The meeting brought together party officials, traditional rulers, youth organisations and women’s groups, with speakers from both parties publicly expressing support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
Wike, who coordinates the APC Presidential Campaign Council in the FCT and Rivers State, said the political mobilisation would cut across party affiliations, insisting that the administration’s infrastructure projects and policies had provided sufficient grounds for supporting the president.
Campaign Council To Be Inaugurated Next Week
He announced that a comprehensive campaign council would be inaugurated the following week, adding that logistical arrangements for the campaign had been secured.
“The comprehensive campaign council will be inaugurated next week. Be rest assured that all logistical backing required for a landslide victory has been fully secured,” he said.
Wike urged residents, particularly young people, to participate in the 2027 elections and vote for Tinubu and other candidates aligned with the ruling party.
“On election day, come out with your PVCs, cast your votes, and ensure total victory for Tinubu and our progressive candidates,” he added.
The minister described the gathering as one of his happiest political moments, claiming that longstanding divisions between members of the APC and PDP were giving way to cooperation in pursuit of development in the FCT.
Wike Defends Subsidy Removal
He also credited Tinubu’s administration with accelerating infrastructure development in the territory, citing the Apo-Karshi Road project, which he said had remained stalled for 16 years before the current administration.
Wike further defended the removal of the petrol subsidy, describing it as a difficult but necessary decision that previous administrations had avoided despite acknowledging problems with the policy.
“Every president said it was a scam, but nobody had the courage to say it would go. That is the pain we will endure till we get it right,” he said.
He argued that increased statutory allocations to state and local governments had improved their capacity to undertake infrastructure projects without relying heavily on commercial bank loans.
The minister also highlighted the appointment of career civil servants to senior positions and the establishment of women and youth secretariats as measures aimed at promoting inclusion in the FCT.

APC, PDP Leaders Back Tinubu
The FCT Chairman of the APC, Ishaku Yamawo, praised Wike for what he described as changes to the physical landscape and political atmosphere of the capital.
Yamawo said political rivalries had previously prevented some people from maintaining relationships with relatives and associates belonging to opposing parties.
He also commended Tinubu for addressing concerns of indigenous communities in the FCT, including the appointment of an indigene to a ministerial position and infrastructure projects in communities such as Gishiri and Guzape.
The FCT PDP Chairman, Mohammed Dogara, also declared support for the emerging cross-party alliance, saying political hostilities between the two parties should no longer prevent cooperation on development.
He argued that the development of the FCT provides grounds for residents, regardless of their political affiliations or indigenous status, to support the president.
Dogara further pledged that by January 16, 2027, the PDP structure under his leadership would mobilise at the grassroots level behind Tinubu.
He urged traditional rulers and community leaders to encourage residents to support initiatives they believe would improve development in the territory.
The District Head of Jikoyi, Nicodemus Marchi, praised Wike’s administration, comparing the minister’s arrival in the FCT to a cool breeze that brought renewed stability and development.
Marchi credited the minister with addressing security concerns, reviving abandoned road projects and upgrading traditional institutions, including the elevation of some traditional rulers’ positions after what he described as 29 years of neglect.
