The United States has attacked and seized an Iranian cargo ship attempting to get past its blockade of Iran’s ports, President Trump has said.
Trump said the ship was given “fair warning to stop” but the crew “refused to listen, so our navy ship stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engine room.”
Iran’s military has said it will retaliate. Iranian media says drones have attacked US ships, though no damage has been reported.
The US and Iran are due to hold peace talks in Pakistan on Monday, with Vice-President JD Vance leading the US delegation.

But an Iranian spokesman said they have “no plans for the next round of negotiation, and no decision has been made” on whether they will attend.
The US-Iran two-week ceasefire is due to end on Wednesday.
On Sunday, Trump again threatened to strike Iranian power plants and bridges if a deal is not reached.
Iran has not yet decided whether it will attend a second round of negotiations with the US, a spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry said.
“As of now… we have no plans for the next round of negotiation, and no decision has been made in this regard,” spokesman Esmail Baghaei said, in a translation from the AFP news agency.
Trump’s Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner were also due to attend.
