The Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) oldest social-cultural organization in Nigeria has given the award of “Legend of Industry, Enterprise and Profession” to a seasoned medical practitioner, Olorogun Dr Isaac Akpoveta in recognition of his immense contribution to Urhobo nation and humanity at large.
The UPU which is the apex Socio-cultural organisation of the Urhobo people held that Akpoveta has truly distinguished himself both as a medical practitioner, a politician, a community leader and a philanthropist.
It could be recalled that sometime last year, Dr Akpoveta was honoured with the chieftaincy title of Oboroyibo Rode R’Ovie (The Royal Physician) by the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, Evang. Dr Wilson Ojakovo, Oharisi III, for his role in the treatment and recovery from a life-threatening health challenge faced by the monarch.
A title wish placed his name in the history books and the first ever to bag a double chieftaincy title from the same kingdom.
The UPU said, “being a successful entrepreneur Olorogun Dr Isaac Omavuaye AKPOVETA is the chairman and group managing director of the VETA GROUP OF COMPANIES as well as the Group Medical Consultant, VETA HOSPITAL GROUP. All the companies have national and international spread. He has to his credit over 30 years of active medical practice having established hospitals across Nigeria both in the northern and southern parts of the country.
“Olorogun Dr Isaac Omavuaye AKPOVETA was the pioneer National Secretary of the Healthcare Provider Association of Nigeria (HCPAN) an association with membership that cut across all professional calling – Doctors. Pharmacist, lab scientist et cetera.
He rose in the Association to become Deputy National President, Acting National President and National President of the Association.
“All these in a period spanning a little over a decade. Today, our revered Olorogun Dr Isaac Omavuaye AKPOVETA is a Member Board of Trustees (B.O.T) of the Healthcare Providers Association of Nigeria. A member of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) in which he had held various executive positions.
“Olorogun is also a member of the association of General And Private Medical Practitioners Of Nigeria (AGPMPN) which awarded him the fellowship (FAGP), a distinguished Medical Practioner (DMP) and as her Distinguise Health Ambassador (DHA).
“Olorogun Dr Isaac Omavuaye AKPOVETA was appointed to the Board of Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA). He was also a Board Member of The Lagos State Blood Transfusion Board having been appointed into both positions by the then Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His appointment into the two Board positions was also renewed by the successor of His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, His Excellency Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN. All based on merit and performance.
“Olorogun Dr Isaac Omavuaye AKPOVETA, a consummate technocrat and boardroom Guru was appointed as The Chairman, Governing Council University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) by the former President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

“Being a World Health Organization (WHO) certified in Health Systems Financing Policy Olorogun Dr Isaac Omavuaye AKPOVETA was the key facilitator of a technical working group (TWG), set up by the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Dr Ifeanyi Arthur OKowa, to midwife the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Commission bill passed into law in 2015.
“Upon successful completion of this assignment: Olorogun Dr Isaac Omavuaye AKPOVETA was named The Chairman, Governing Board of the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Commission.
“As a result of his excellent performance in the assigned portfolio, his tenure as the Chairman of the Commission has been renewed for another term of 4years by His Excellency the Governor, attesting to the fact that Olorogun Dr Isaac Omavuaye AKPOVETA is not only a technocrat but also a GURU of boardroom governance.
“Also recently the Olorogun upgraded, renovated, furnished and equipped a police post to “A” Divisional Police Headquarter at Ofuoma-Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government, Which Was Commissioned in February 2021 by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Police Command, CP Mohammed Ari Ali. A strategic police division that takes care of the security needs of 14 communities of Ughelli kingdom and beyond.”
Dr Isaac Akpoveta while receiving the award, thank the UPU for finding him worthy as the recipient of the award while pledging to do more especially for the vulnerable in the society.
In his words “I Wish to dedicate this award especially to the vulnerable in the society as I am further galvanised by the recognition to continue to invest more effort in the service to Humanity.
