The Umeh Need Road (UNR) Forum has appealed for calm and a political solution to the issues surrounding the suspension and detention of the Delta State Commissioner for Rural Roads, Hon. Ruben Izeze, describing him as “one of us” and a long-standing supporter of the group.

Key Highlights

  • UNR describes Izeze as one of its earliest and strongest supporters.
  • The forum appeals to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene and resolve the matter amicably.
  • Izeze was reportedly arrested following a clash at an APC Delta Central stakeholders’ meeting.
  • The forum says dialogue is necessary to prevent disruption to rural road development.

In a statement by an administrator of the forum, Bar Zino Ugboma, on Wednesday, UNR said Izeze’s suspension had created concern among stakeholders who had worked closely with him over the years.

The forum recalled Izeze’s contributions to its activities, including his role in connecting the group with the administration of former Delta State Governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan.

“A prominent ‘Forumite’, and one of our biggest supporters right from the beginning of UNR, Hon. Izeze Reuben is currently on a short unpleasant holiday,” the statement said.

The group added that Izeze had participated in its activities, including an end-of-year football match, and had also provided financial assistance to members who approached him for support.

UNR Seeks Governor’s Intervention

UNR said it was not taking sides in the matter but appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene and seek an amicable political solution.

“Let us remember him in our prayers as we call on the Governor to intervene and resolve the troubles with a political solution. Comrade Izeze is one of us and we pray he comes back stronger than he went in,” the forum stated.

The group maintained that dialogue remained the best approach to resolving the matter and ensuring that efforts to improve rural road infrastructure across Delta State continue without disruption.

Community Reactions

The appeal has attracted support from some members of the forum across Isoko and Delta South.

Several commenters described Izeze as accessible and committed to grassroots development, while expressing hope that the matter would be resolved quickly.

It was earlier reported that Izeze was involved in a confrontation with Temple Mudi, also known as Simon Mudi, a senior protocol aide to the Delta State Governor, during an APC Delta Central stakeholders’ meeting at the Petroleum Training Institute Conference Centre in Effurun on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Videos from the incident circulated online and reportedly showed both men sustaining head injuries.

According to the account provided by the forum, a preliminary investigation by the state government led to Izeze’s arrest, after which he was remanded by a court.

The Delta State Government had not officially responded to the UNR appeal as of press time.
