The lifeless bodies of newborn twin infants were discovered in a drainage channel in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, prompting an investigation by the police.

According to the police, officers attached to the Okpoko Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress report in the early hours of Sunday about the discovery of two abandoned infant corpses in a drainage channel along Cooperative Street, Nwokedi, Okpoko.

Following the report, police operatives immediately visited the scene, recovered relevant evidence, and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
SP Ikenga disclosed that preliminary findings led investigators to identify and arrest the biological parents of the deceased infants. He added that the suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with investigators as efforts continue to determine what transpired.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the incident as disturbing and a reflection of man’s inhumanity to fellow humans.
The police commissioner commended the swift response and professionalism of the officers involved in the investigation, noting that their prompt action resulted in the arrest of the suspects shortly after the discovery was reported.
Orutugu strongly condemned the act, emphasizing that every child deserves care, protection, and the opportunity to live and grow in a safe environment.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that anyone found culpable in the case is brought to justice and made to face the full weight of the law.
The police spokesperson stated that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that further details would be made available as the case progresses.
