The Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC) will be the first project to be inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in celebration of his second year in office, according to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Wike made this known on Friday after an inspection tour of the AICC renovation site in Abuja. He commended Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the contractor handling the comprehensive rehabilitation of the facility, for delivering high-quality work and adhering to the agreed project timeline.
“The AICC was in a terrible state until Mr President ordered its upgrade to meet international standards,” Wike said. “It is remarkable that since its construction in 1991, no administration made an attempt to give it a facelift until now.”
The minister hailed the renovation as a symbol of “effective leadership,” crediting Tinubu’s administration for transforming the once-deplorable structure into a modern, world-class conference centre.

“No responsible leader would have allowed the former state of this centre to continue. Today, the difference is clear. This is what true leadership looks like,” he added.
In addition to the AICC, Wike also inspected the ongoing extension of Obafemi Awolowo Way (N5), stretching from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III. Also being executed by Julius Berger, the minister noted that the first phase of this infrastructure project may also be inaugurated during Tinubu’s second anniversary celebrations.
He praised the engineering firm for its commitment to excellence, citing the use of high-standard equipment and skilled workforce as key factors in the project’s progress.
“This road project reflects the vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda. We’re excited to witness its realization,” Wike said.
