Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund (BEDTF) Board, Dr (Mrs) Alice A. Atuwo has charged students who came tops in 2024 Bayelsa Robotics Challenge to widen their horizon and be global citizens.
Atuwo urged them to continue to improve themselves by identifying areas of interest to build greater capacity and win the world.
The Executive Secretary gave the charge on Saturday during the presentation of cash prizes to the winners of the challenge at the Conference room of the Ministry of Education in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Atuwo who rendered apologies on behalf of the BEDTF Board for not presenting the prizes immediately after the competition that covered robotics, micro bits and core values. urged participants to take advantage of the opportunity at their disposal to contribute meaningfully for the benefit of Bayelsa and the world at large.
Also speaking, Acting Chairman of the BEDTF, Prof Francis Sikoki said that the programmes were targeted at ensuring that students are well equipped to be self-reliant and meet up the expectations in the labour market.
He commended the winners for putting their best to emerge outstanding and advised mentors and Principles to sustain the robotics training in their schools saying artificial intelligence now rules the world.
Prizes for the Bayelsa Robotics Challenge 2024 winners were given in categories 1,2 and 3.
Category one which was on robotics saw Bishop Dimieari Grammar School, Ovom go home with the first prize, while second position went to Bayelsa Sports Academy, Asoama
Captain Owonaro Ijaw National Academy, Kaiama clinched the third position.

Category two on Micro bits saw Government Model Secondary School, Ogbia carting the first prize, St Judes Girls Secondary School, Amarata came second while third position went to Government Model Secondary School, Ekeremor
For category three on Core values, first position went to Government Model Secondary School, Ogbia, Nembe National Grammar School, Nembe came second while third position went to Akpalakpa Grammar School, Ukubie.
The first positions received N 150,000 (One hundred and fifty thousand naira), second positions got N100,000 (One hundred thousand naira) while the third positions went home with N50,000 (Fifty thousand naira) in each of the categories.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Principal of Government Model Secondary School, Ogbia , Mr. Robins Ibegu thanked the EDTF for fulfilling the promise of rewarding the winning schools, saying it would spur the students in future competitions.
The principal attributed the success of his team to hard work, team spirit and determination.
