Tarabans, especially those domiciling in rural areas of Taraba state, at the weekend, exploded with joy at the sight of the Mobilization and Distribution Team personnel.
The team, who were assigned with the responsibility of distributing the Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) on door-to-door basis to the people of the state, were observed to have commenced the distribution shortly after the flagged off exercise across the sixteen local government councils of the state.
The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, during the flagged off of the 2022 distribution of free ITN in Jalingo, appealed to traditional and religious leaders as well as media practitioners to sensitize the public on how to make adequate use of the nets.
While urging traditional and religious leaders to encourage their subjects and congregations to “always sleep inside the nets” as suggested by him, “should disseminate malaria messages to every nook and cranny of the state, especially on hanging and sleeping inside the nets, the intermittent preventive treatment for pregnant women and the utilization of other health interventions for malaria prevention.”
The people, who were overwhelmed by the commencement of the exercise, were observed to have opened the doors of their houses wide for the team to come in and make the nets available to them.
Apart from doling out the nets, the team were as well noticed to have taken their time to tutor beneficiaries on how to use and maintain the nets.

Elated by the massive acceptance of the nets, some of the team members, who spoke with The Trumpet, gave credits to the monarchs and religious leaders for the success being recorded.
Speaking on behalf of her team, Adama Sani said, “since we commenced the distribution exercise, the people have been cooperating” adding that “as you can see, they have opened their doors wide for us to go in and hand over the net to them and to also educate them on how to use them.”
Adama, who spoke in Yorro council, said the reports “that we have been receiving from our colleagues from all the sixteen local governments councils are that of success too.”
Some beneficiaries whom our correspondent noticed to have spread their nets in shades as directed, were optimistic that the era of malaria in their homes have come to an end.
Ajara Saleh, who took our correspondent down the memory lane on how she lost her three years old baby to malaria, vowed to judiciously make use of the two nets doled out to her “because I don’t want any of my children to fall victim to malaria again.”
Over two million ITNs was observed to have been earmarked for distribution by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) with support from Global Fund.
