Akwa Ibom state governor Udom Emmanuel has ordered the state Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof Eno Ibanga to constitute a Panel of Inquiry to probe cause of the collapsed building in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.
In a statement issued in Uyo, on Sunday, by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobng, Governor Emmanuel commiserated with the families of the victims, who lost their lives and those who sustained various degrees of injuries now receiving treatments in designated hospitals in the state .
The statement reads in parts : “Following the unfortunate incident of the collapse of a four storey building on Iman street, off Aka Road in Uyo, our state capital, HE the Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has expressed his deepest condolences to the families whose relatives were trapped and eventually died in the collapsed building, while wishing the survivors a quick recovery.
“He has directed the Commissioner for Health to immediately take over the management of the survivors.”

Consequently, the Governor directed the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service to immediately set up a Panel of a Inquiry to investigate the unfortunate incident.
“The panel is to conclude its work within one month, and if it is found that the collapse of the building was as a result of any act of negligence or wrongdoing, those responsible will face the full wrath of the law.”
Meanwhile, Governor Emmanuel has expressed his sincere appreciation to those who responded to the distress call from victims of the collapsed building .
He listed those responded in time for rescue as security agencies, government officials, voluntary organizations as well as all citizens who took part (especially the construction companies that donated their equipment) in the rescue operation which lasted many hours.
However, the four storey building collapse is the second in the state after Reigners Bible Church collapsed in 2017 where Governor Udom Emmanuel, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Ekerete Udoh, two commissioners and other government officials almost lost their lives while over 60 worshippers were killed.
