Troops from the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested a suspected informant for kidnappers in Taraba State.
The arrest, which took place on September 6, 2024, was confirmed in a statement released on Sunday in Jalingo, by the soldiers
The suspect, identified as Miss Markus Grace, was said to have been apprehended in Sondi village, Wukari local government area.
According to a statement which was signed by Captain Oni Olubodunde, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, Grace is believed to be the girlfriend of a notorious kidnapper named Chen, who has been terrorizing the region.
“The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation to reveal the extent of her involvement in various criminal enterprises,” the statement read.

During the operation that led to her arrest, soldiers reportedly recovered an AK-47 rifle and a vehicle in separate operations. Grace is accused of aiding kidnappers and other criminal elements operating in the area.
In a separate operation on September 5, 2024, troops also intercepted a suspicious vehicle during a stop-and-search patrol in Bantaje town, Wukari. The Blue Toyota Yaris, with registration number Taraba KLD 652 XA, was flagged down, but the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes.
Upon searching the abandoned car, soldiers found an AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, and two identity cards belonging to members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) from Mutum Biyu. The identity cards were in the names of Isa Ibrahim and Mallam Isa Garin Tukura. Investigations are ongoing to trace and arrest the individuals connected to the cards.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their professionalism and quick response. He urged the public to continue cooperating with security forces by providing timely information to help combat crime.
The 6 Brigade reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security in Taraba State, vowing to uphold its zero-tolerance stance on criminality.
