A Nigerian medical Doctor based in the United States of America Dr Marshall Umoren has hailed Senator Bassey Albert Akpan for defecting to the All Progressives Congress Party (APC) in Akwa Ibom state.
In a telephone interview with newsmen in Uyo on Monday, Umoren described the defection as a huge plus to the APC party in the state.
Recall that Senator Albert was the Young Progressive Party ( YPP) governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections who lost his appeal at the Federal Appeal Court to Pastor Umo Eno.
Last week, Senator Akpan withdrew the case at the Supreme Court before he defected to APC and was received by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Umoren, a Humanist said that Senator Akpan’s move to join APC will brighten the chances of the party in the next election.

His words: “Senator Akpan’s defection is a huge plus for APC in Akwa Ibom. His defection is bringing a lot of good fortune to the party, and this, considering the dynamics of party politics in Nigeria.”
“OBA as often addressed by associates and his political friends will be importing a lot of things into APC, and this might be the game-changer in 2027”
Umoren predicted a great dislodgement and shift of youth energy and power across the political structures of the state.
“Senator Albert has been reckoned in political circles as a great influencer, especially while he was subsisting within the ruling PDP in the state”, Umoren noted.
“His growing influence is not in the least whittling. Senator Albert’s past experience is a boost on his recent decision,” he said.
