Pupils and teachers rescued after their abduction from a school in Oyo State have expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and Nigerian security agencies for securing their freedom.
In a video shared on Friday, the victims thanked the president for prioritising their rescue, saying the swift intervention and commitment of security operatives ensured they returned home alive.
Speaking on behalf of the rescued group, one of the teachers said the victims were deeply grateful for the government’s efforts throughout the rescue operation.
“Hello sir, our father, we are grateful. The president sir, we are grateful. We understand your commitment to our safety and we appreciate all you did for us. We could see it in your heart. Thank you very much,” the teacher said.
The teacher also commended the security personnel involved in the operation, adding, “every security operative, they tried so much and that is why we are still alive now. We are very grateful to you. Thank you very much. God bless you, sir.”
The emotional message comes shortly after the victims regained their freedom following their abduction during an attack on a school in Oyo State by armed men.
The incident, which sparked nationwide outrage and concern, prompted President Tinubu to direct security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of all those kidnapped.
Following days of coordinated intelligence-led operations involving multiple security agencies, the pupils, teachers and other members of staff were successfully rescued and reunited with their families.
Their release has been widely welcomed across the country, with many Nigerians commending the security forces for the successful operation while calling for stronger measures to prevent future attacks on schools.
The appreciation message was shared on X by the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who posted the video of one of the rescued teachers thanking President Tinubu and the security agencies for their efforts.
